Frozen Pipes and Ice Dams
Why Call a Restoration Company After a Burst Pipe
A plumber fixes the line that split, but the water it released is still in your walls, ceilings, and insulation. We pull it out, dry the structure with daily moisture checks, and replace what can’t be saved, so the damage stops with the pipe and is far less likely to turn into mold.
Freeze damage tends to hide. Water from a split line can run inside an exterior wall for hours, and an ice dam leak can soak attic insulation long before a stain shows on the ceiling. Our crews know where to look in Alaska homes and businesses, so we find the wet areas a brief look would miss.
How Freeze Damage Restoration Works
Our Frozen Pipe and Ice Dam Restoration Process
01
Tell us what’s leaking and where
For a burst pipe, call us 24/7, and we’ll help you stop the water while a crew heads your way, typically arriving in about 60 minutes. For an ice dam leak, we’ll schedule a visit with you as soon as possible.
02
We trace where the water went
We take moisture readings in the walls, ceilings, and floors around the leak to map the wet areas, then open only what we need to reach soaked insulation, so the rest of your walls stay intact.
03
We dry walls, ceilings, and insulation
We extract standing water, run air movers and dehumidifiers, and check moisture every day, drying ceilings, walls, and insulation in place wherever we can instead of replacing them.
04
We repair the rooms the water reached
We replace damaged drywall, insulation, and flooring, and after an ice dam, we fix the attic insulation and ventilation behind it, keeping your adjuster updated if insurance is involved.
In an Emergency
What to Do Right After a Pipe Bursts
Close the Main Valve
Close the main water shutoff, often in the basement, crawl space, or garage, unless you’d have to wade through water near outlets to reach it. If a well pump feeds the line, turn it off too.
Stay Clear of Power
Stay away from outlets or appliances the water has reached. Shut off the breaker only if you can reach a dry panel without crossing wet floors, or ask your utility to cut it. Never thaw a pipe with a flame.
Watch the Ceilings
Stay out from under sagging or bulging drywall, since it can give way under the weight of the water. Don’t climb onto an icy roof to chip at an ice dam, which risks a bad fall.
Call Our Team
Keep the heat on so other lines don’t freeze, then call us at (866) 604-8697, and we’ll send a crew to extract the water and start drying before it spreads any further.
Our People
Our Alaska Freeze Damage Team

A burst pipe or leaking ice dam can lead to more than wet drywall. Mold can start in damp insulation, belongings may need cleaning, and ceilings or floors often need rebuilding, so we handle each of those as part of the same job.
Water Damage Restoration
We dry out flooded basements and appliance leaks too, so you can call the same team for any water problem.

Fire Damage Restoration →Reconstruction and Repairs
We rebuild ceilings and walls once moisture readings show they’re dry, so old water stains are less likely to show through.
Reconstruction →Contents Cleaning and Storage
We pack out and store belongings from the wet rooms, so they’re safe and out of the way while we dry and repair.
Contents Cleaning →Trauma and Biohazard Cleanup
Our trained team handles trauma and biohazard cleanup with care and discretion, so you can step away from it.

Taylored Restoration FAQs
Anchorage, Mat-Su, and Fairbanks Frozen Pipe and Ice Dam FAQs
Will insurance cover an ice dam leak?
Often, yes, for the water damage. Most policies pay to dry and repair the ceilings and walls an ice dam leak soaks, though they usually don’t cover removing the ice from the roof. We photograph the damage and send moisture readings to your adjuster as we work.
Why did the pipe only start leaking after it thawed?
Because the ice was holding the water back. Water expands as it freezes and splits the pipe, but the leak doesn’t show until the ice melts and pressure returns. That’s why we check the surrounding walls too, since water from a split can spread inside them before anyone notices.
Will the ice dam come back next winter?
It’s much less likely once the cause is corrected. Ice dams form when heat escapes into the attic and melts the snow on your roof, so after we repair the leak damage, we correct the insulation and ventilation that let the heat escape.
Can wet insulation be saved?
Sometimes. We can dry fiberglass batts in place when we reach them quickly, but insulation that’s matted down or contaminated stops doing its job. We check it room by room and replace only what won’t perform.
What if my pipes froze while I was away?
Call us as soon as you find it. A line that splits in an empty home can run for days, so we check the floors and rooms below the leak, dry the structure, and document the damage carefully, since insurers look closely at claims on vacant homes.
Can you repair my ceiling after an ice dam leak?
Yes. Once the attic and ceiling are dry, we replace the stained or sagging drywall and the wet insulation, so the room looks the way it did before the leak.
