Fairbanks FAQs
Fairbanks Water, Fire, and Mold Restoration FAQs
Why does my basement get wet when the river is high?
Because the water table near the Chena and Tanana sits close to the surface, often less than 15 feet down, and it rises with the rivers. That can push water into basements and crawl spaces even when the river stays in its banks. We pump out the water, dry the structure, and help you find where it’s coming in.
Why do pipes freeze more often in town than on the hills?
Cold air settles on the valley floor, so homes in town can sit 10 to 20 degrees colder than homes on the surrounding hills during a cold snap. That makes pipes in low-lying homes more likely to freeze, so keep the heat up and check under sinks and in crawl spaces when the temperature drops.
Can smoke from a small chimney fire damage the whole house?
It can. Smoke and fine soot travel through the house and settle on walls, ceilings, and fabrics in rooms far from the fire, and the odor can linger in carpet and upholstery. We clean the soot from every affected room, remove the odor, and repair anything that burned.
How soon can mold grow after water damage?
Within 24 to 48 hours in the right conditions, which is why we start extracting water and drying as soon as we arrive. If mold has already started, we remove it under containment and track down the moisture behind it.
Do you rebuild after the cleanup?
Yes. Once the structure is dry, we replace the drywall, insulation, and flooring we removed, with the vapor barrier a heated Fairbanks building needs.
Can you store my belongings while you repair my home?
Yes. We pack out what needs to move, clean it, and keep it in heated storage until the repairs are done, then bring it all back.
Do you work with my insurance company?
Yes. We photograph the damage, record moisture readings, and write our estimate in the format insurers use, and we work directly with your adjuster throughout the claim.
