Fire

3 Immediate Steps In Case of A Fire

The most important thing to do in case of a fire is to make sure you are safe. If you lose control of a fire inside or outside your home, your next steps could very much be the difference between life and death. So, to get help on the way, follow these three steps:

1. Stop, Drop, & Roll

If you are on fire, the first thing you need to do is stop what you are doing, get down on the ground, and start rolling around until the fire is smothered. Once the fire has been put out, you can get up onto your hands and knees.

2. Escape the Danger

When escaping an active fire, you need to remember that smoke and heat rise, so by staying on your hands and knees you can crawl on the floor to avoid high heat and toxic fumes. Always remember to check doors for smoke and heat before exiting the room. And, when you open a door, keep your head down and face turned away in case there is extreme heat on the other side of the door. Avoid elevators and take the stairs.

3. Call For Help

Once you have escaped the fire and are outside in a safe place, call 911 and tell them your location. If you don’t know the exact address, give them the best description that you can and stay on the phone until help arrives.
