What To Do After Identifying Mold Damage

What To Do:

  • Limit your exposure to mold by wearing masks, gloves, and goggles without ventilation holes.

  • Prevent future mold by completely removing moisture sources and destroying root systems.

  • Reduce overall humidity levels in the house with a dehumidifier to keep mold from growing back.

  • Dispose of any rags used during cleaning in a sealed garbage bag.

  • Immediately wash your clothes in a separate laundry load with hot water.

What Not To Do:

  • DO NOT try and clean mold without protective equipment as mold can contain serious allergens and you can spread spores further throughout the house.

  • DO NOT repaint walls until after mold has been completely removed and the wall has dried. Otherwise, it is likely to peel.

  • DO NOT scrape mold off of surfaces as it will make identifying the extent of root systems difficult.
