What To Do After Identifying Mold Damage

What To Do:

Limit your exposure to mold by wearing masks, gloves, and goggles without ventilation holes.
Prevent future mold by completely removing moisture sources and destroying root systems, which often starts with professional water damage restoration to address leaks, flooding, or hidden moisture.
Reduce overall humidity levels in the house with a dehumidifier to keep mold from growing back.
Dispose of any rags used during cleaning in a sealed garbage bag.
Immediately wash your clothes in a separate laundry load with hot water.

What Not To Do:

DO NOT try and clean mold without protective equipment as mold can contain serious allergens and you can spread spores further throughout the house.
DO NOT repaint walls until after mold has been completely removed and the wall has dried. Otherwise, it is likely to peel.
DO NOT scrape mold off of surfaces as it will make identifying the extent of root systems difficult.
