3 More Signs Your Carpet is Making You Sick

In a previous article, we sounded the alarm about that dirty carpet, the cleaning of which keeps getting pushed down your admittedly long to-do list. We know, we know, life gets busy … but you don’t have anything if you don’t have your health. And when it comes to making you sick in your own home, few culprits are worse offenders than neglected carpet.

In the previous article, we laid out three signs that your carpet might be making you sick. Well, that list was far from comprehensive. We’re back with a list of another three signs your carpet might be the source of your health woes … and you’re long overdue to have it cleaned.

1. Musty Odors

It can’t be a good sign. Whenever you enter a room or get close to your carpet, your nostrils are assaulted by a musty odor. What causes this … and what is it doing to you?

The unfortunate answer — your carpet probably got wet at some point, from a spill or a leak or any other kind of incursion. You might not even remember when it happened … but the effects are there for you to smell.

The smell usually comes from some kind of fungus — mold and mildew. The reason you can smell it is because the fungus has become airborne, and that’s very bad for you. Over the short term, it can lead to cold-like symptoms; over the long term, severe allergy attacks and respiratory issues.

2. Stomach Trouble

If you have a sudden bout of tummy trouble, you may suspect that it’s something you ate. But as you wrack your brains over where you might have caught some bad seafood, your carpet could secretly be at fault.

Why? Because dirty carpets can and do play host to bacterial colonies — bacteria well-known for causing serious digestive issues. We’re talking about e-coli, salmonella, and norovirus.

Don’t skip the ceviche or the tartare … To ward off future stomach misery, move “Call Carpet Cleaners” back to the top of the to-do list.

3. Asthma Attacks

If you have asthma, choosing a carpeted floor is kind of a problem from the get-go. Dirty carpets tend to contain mold, mildew, bacteria, allergens, and pet dander which can aggravate asthma, bringing on more attacks. The carpet in your bedroom is a particularly big offender because you’re breathing that air all night.

If you are finding that your asthma attacks are becoming more and more frequent, it’s probably time to steam-clean your carpets. You’ll be amazed at how much more easily you breathe.

Your carpets should be your friends, not your enemies. Beautiful carpets add so much to a room and a home. But if they become dirty, they are health hazards for so many reasons.

If your carpets haven’t been cleaned in months or even years, they may very well be the source of those nagging health problems you can’t seem to shake.

Reach out to Taylored Restoration today — it only takes a few hours for us to turn those sickly carpets healthy again.
