Turn off electricity at the main fuse box if necessary.
If any computers are off, leave them off until cleaned, then backup immediately. If any computers are on, backup first, then turn off and have cleaned.
If power is off to your refrigerator or freezer, it needs to be either hooked up to power or emptied. Contents will need to be inventoried.
Contact your insurance company as soon as possible.
Limit contact with areas and items affected by sewage water.
Use extreme caution when entering buildings; there may be hidden damage, particularly in foundations.
Salvage valuables and place them in a secure, dry location.
Ask questions of your restoration company. Communicate often and return communications.
Firearms are highly corrosive and must be cleaned immediately. Ask all family members where any firearms and ammunition are located. You need to take them off-premises before pack-out begins.
Take any checkbooks, precious jewelry and cash with you.
Upon reentering the site, watch for structural damage. Ceilings and roofs may be subject to collapse. Stay out of rooms where ceilings sag from retained water.
