4 Easy Ways to Protect Your Home from Theft

Home burglaries can unfortunately be a problem at any time of the year. Luckily, there are ways to make your home safer and less of a target for potential thieves. We’ve compiled a short list of easy ways you can make your home a little more secure.

1. Invest in high-quality exterior doors. If your exterior doors are old, worn, or hollow, consider replacing them with a new door made of steel, fiberglass, or solid core wood. This will make it more difficult for intruders to potentially break in.

2. Lock your windows and doors. This one may seem obvious, but most intruders easily gain entry through the front or back door. It’s easy to forget to lock your doors. Make a routine of walking through your home before leaving to make sure your exterior doors are safely locked.

3. Keep your home’s exterior maintained. One of the biggest signs you may be away for vacation is an unkept yard and full mailbox. Be sure to shovel your driveway, mow your lawn, and routinely empty your mailbox to ensure it isn’t a target for burglaries. If you are going to be out of town for any period of time, have friends or family members stop by to tidy everything up.

4. Install a home security system. It’s always a good idea to install a home security system in your house. Nowadays there are many options available depending on your needs at a variety of price points. We suggest doing some research to find the best solution for your lifestyle and home.
