How to Prevent Mold in Your Bathroom

Your bathroom is one of the most common places for household mold. The moisture along with warm temperatures and lack of ventilation create the perfect atmosphere for it to grow and flourish. Knowing where mold comes from and how to prevent it is important in eliminating the problem from your bathroom.

There are several areas in your bathroom that are more susceptible to mold. The shower and bath are the most common places since they’re used regularly. If you don’t properly ventilate your bathroom after you shower, there’s a good possibility your shower or bathtub has had mold. Tiled showers and areas around drains and fixtures are especially susceptible.

The sink and toilet can also be magnets for mold growth since they are constantly exposed to water. Check for signs of mold around sink tiles and fixtures. Also check items like your toothbrush holder that could potentially have mold inside. Areas around your toilet base and inside the tank can be problem areas as well.

Since bathrooms are so heavily exposed to moisture, the walls and floor can also develop mold. These are not always visible to the naked eye, and can sometimes grow below the surface. If you have a musty smell in your bathroom but can’t find any mold, it’s possible it’s hiding in your walls and floor. Be aware of any soft spots in your flooring or walls which could be an indicator of mold and wood rot.

If you don’t have a ventilation fan, it’s important to have one installed to ensure your bathroom is able to fully dry out after it’s exposed to moisture. Make sure to do periodic checks of areas around plumbing to catch any leak problems before they become a serious issue. If you detect a musty smell or have symptoms relating to mold exposure, don’t hesitate to call our team.
