Which Cabinet Style is Right for You?
Cabinetry is one of the most important aspects of kitchen remodels. It’s usually the biggest expense of the remodel and makes a big impact of the overall look of your space. When choosing such a long-term part of your home, it’s important to ensure you’ve made the right decision. One of the very first decisions to make is if you want custom, semi-custom, or stock cabinets in your new kitchen. Each has it’s own set of pros and cons.
Custom cabinetry allows you to determine the exact dimensions of your cabinets. They’re made just for your kitchen, and allow you to choose every design aspect like: specific door styles, colors, cabinet depth, and more. Since they’re custom made to your specifications, they are very labor intensive and can take months to arrive once they’re ordered. Because they are so customized, these cabinets are significantly more expensive than semi-custom or stock cabinets.
Semi-custom cabinets marry custom and stock cabinets. The cabinets come in pre-determined sizes, but still allow for some customization. You’ll be able to customize things like cabinet depth, door styles, drawer sizes, cabinet color, and more. There’s usually more options for you to choose from compared to stock cabinets, but not as many as custom cabinets. These are a great option if you still want to be able to customize some aspects of your cabinets, but you budget doesn’t allow for a full-on custom job.
Stock cabinets come in standard sizes, are pre-made, and mass produced. There isn’t the same color and door style variety you would get with custom or semi-custom cabinets. While stock cabinets can have a bad reputation since they’re usually made of fiberboard (MDF), some stock cabinets can be made of solid wood. Since the cabinets are pre-made, they arrive quickly and are budget friendly.
No matter which cabinet style you choose, it’s important to make sure the quality of the hardware and materials are excellent and have a warranty. We’re happy to help you make your decision when it’s time to choose cabinets for your remodel. Our showroom has several options for you to see in person.
